The Sohana wallet is the financial home for your money inside the platform — multi-currency, ready to top up from your bank or mobile money, and built to power every other product on Sohana from the moment you sign in.
Hold balances in EUR, GBP, USD, CAD, XAF, GHC, NGN, and ZAR side by side. Convert between them at a transparent 0.7% fee. Pay anyone with a Hanatag in seconds. Contribute to circles and pools without leaving the app.
Your Sohana wallet is the financial home for your money inside the platform. It is not a single account in a single currency — it is a multi-currency container that lets you hold balances in any of eight supported currencies side by side. EUR for your salary in Paris, GBP for the rent you receive in London, XAF for what you send home, NGN for what your cousin sends back. Each balance is real, segregated, and instantly available.
The wallet is more than storage. It is the financial engine that powers every other product on Sohana. When you join a Njangi circle, contributions move from your wallet. When a Pool admin approves a disbursement, funds land in the recipient's wallet. When someone sends a donation to a campaign, it leaves their wallet and arrives in the campaign escrow. When you pay a friend by Hanatag, your wallets handle the transfer in seconds.
The interface is built around the four operations you actually do: top up, withdraw, convert, pay. Every other action — contributing, donating, requesting, splitting — is a variation on those four primitives. Once you understand the wallet, you understand how money moves on Sohana.
There are four primitive operations on the wallet. Tap each tab to see what the actual flow looks like — with the same forms, fees, and confirmations you will see when you log in. No marketing screenshots. The mockups below mirror the live interface.
You can fund your wallet using whichever method makes sense for the country you are in. Bank transfer is the default for users in EU, UK, US, and Canada — settle in one to two business days, no platform fee. Mobile money is available for users on the continent — instant settlement with provider fees passed through transparently.
You can also receive money instantly from any other Sohana user via their Hanatag — the simplest top-up, with zero fees and zero waiting. As long as the sender has a balance, your wallet receives it in seconds.
When you want to move funds off the platform — to your bank account, your mobile money wallet, or another Sohana user — the wallet handles the routing. Withdrawals to EU bank accounts cost 1.0%, UK 1.5%, US 2.0%, and SWIFT (anywhere else) 3.5%. Mobile money disbursements are flat 1.5%. Sending to another Sohana user is always free.
Every fee is itemised on screen before you confirm. The minimum withdrawal fee is 50 cents — the floor for processing costs. There are no hidden charges, no surprise FX markups, no "convenience fees" added at the last screen.
Convert between any two of your Sohana wallets in seconds. The exchange rate shown is the live mid-market rate — the same rate banks use among themselves — with a single, transparent 0.7% conversion fee. No hidden spread, no opaque "we use our own rate" clause, no per-transaction surcharge.
Conversions are useful all the time. A diaspora user receives a salary in EUR, converts a portion to XAF to send home, keeps the rest in EUR. A parent in Lagos converts NGN to GBP to top up their student's UK wallet. A small business converts USD client payments to local currency. The wallet handles all of it without you ever leaving the app.
Pay any other Sohana user by their Hanatag. Sohana-to-Sohana transfers are always free within the same currency, settled instantly. If you and the recipient hold different base currencies, the standard 0.7% conversion fee applies — but you see it before confirming, and you choose which wallet to debit.
The same flow handles every payment situation: paying a friend, splitting a bill, contributing to a circle, donating to a campaign, settling with a small business, or supporting family. The platform routes the transaction correctly based on what you select. One screen. Many possibilities.
When you sign up, you start with a default base currency — usually the one your country uses. Additional currency wallets open on demand: tap the "Add wallet" button on your dashboard, pick a currency, and within seconds you have a new dedicated balance for that currency. Indicative rates below are live mid-market values used by the platform's converter.
Indicative mid-market rates. Live rates inside the platform update in real time from Sohana's pricing engine. Conversion fee of 0.7% applies on every conversion (minimum 50 cents).
Pick any two currencies and a starting amount. The calculator below uses the same exchange engine that powers the converter inside the live wallet — including the transparent 0.7% conversion fee, applied to the gross amount before settling.
Right now your wallet is for moving money inside the network — between friends, into circles, to family abroad. The next chapter is making that same balance spendable in the real world. We are building two card products that will sit on top of your existing wallet, with no separate account or top-up step required.
The virtual card launches first — issued instantly to your phone, ready for online checkout, in-app purchases, and tap-to-pay through Apple Pay and Google Pay. The physical card follows shortly after — a beautifully designed contactless card that draws directly from your multi-currency wallet, automatically picking the right currency for the merchant.
Eight currencies is where we are starting. Beyond that, we are mapping out the next wave of currencies based on diaspora corridors and partner integrations. Each new currency requires a licensed payment partner in the destination country — work that takes time, but ensures every wallet is real and regulated.
Every wallet operates under sensible limits to protect users from mistakes, compromised devices, and fraud. Limits scale up with your KYC level — full verification unlocks higher daily and monthly thresholds. Beyond limits, the wallet is wrapped in the same security layer that protects every Sohana product: PBKDF2-hashed passwords, session controls, role-based access, and complete audit trails.
Maximum daily inflow per wallet at standard KYC level. Higher tiers available for verified business accounts.
Maximum daily outflow to external accounts. Can be raised for users with strong NCS scores and full KYC.
Rolling 30-day cap on total withdrawals to external accounts. Resets daily on a 30-day window.
Lock all wallet operations from your dashboard if you suspect unauthorised access. CCO-authorised admin can also freeze on suspicious activity.
All wallet balances and transaction records are stored encrypted, with role-based access controls enforced at every layer.
Every wallet action — top-up, withdrawal, conversion, payment — is logged with timestamp, amount, and counterparty. Exportable on request.
Eight currencies. Transparent fees. Instant transfers. The card is coming. Everything that makes the rest of Sohana work runs on top of the wallet — and the wallet is ready when you are.
